The Alberta Real Estate Foundation (AREF) has been a driving force in Alberta's real estate industry since 1991, funding initiatives that educate professionals, advance research, and strengthen communities. To support their impact, AREF partnered with Built by Field to transform their digital presence, empowering them to connect with interest holders and showcase their work like never before.

Through this collaboration, we reimagined AREF's brand identity, redesigned their website, and implemented a powerful content management system. These initiatives work to position AREF as an industry leader and lay the foundation for them to expand their reach and influence across Alberta.

    Refreshing AREF's brand identity

    As the Alberta Real Estate Foundation continues to evolve and adapt to changing market dynamics, a comprehensive brand refresh became essential to align with their forward-thinking mission.

    To modernize AREF's visual identity and position them as a forward-thinking industry leader, we developed a comprehensive brand refresh:

    • A sleek new logo and wordmark that embodies AREF's innovative spirit
    • A vibrant, contemporary color palette that energizes their visual communications
    • Modern typography optimized for digital platforms and easy readability
    • Comprehensive brand guidelines to ensure consistency across all touch-points

    These elements came together to create a cohesive, future-focused brand identity that reflects AREF's role as a visionary force in Alberta's real estate industry. The refreshed branding lays the foundation for AREF to engage stakeholders, build credibility, and amplify their impact in the digital realm.

    Looking ahead, this modernized identity positions AREF to better engage with interest holders on critical real estate initiatives, such as any of their funding programs or projects, like the Siksika Nation Long Term Housing Strategy​, all which demonstrate their continued dedication to strengthening Alberta's real estate landscape.

    2023–2024

    Rebuilding AREF's website with modern web tech

    With the reinvigorated brand as a launchpad, we set out to overhaul AREF's digital presence, starting with a complete redesign and rebuild of their website. To create a site that would be as impactful and future-proof as their new visual identity, we leveraged cutting-edge web technologies. With Next.js and Sanity.io, we were able to create a fast, responsive user experience with a flexible, easy-to-manage content structure.

    Next.js, a powerful React framework, allowed us to craft a seamless, intuitive front-end that showcases AREF's brand and mission. Its server-side rendering capabilities ensure lightning-fast load times, while its modular architecture simplifies maintenance and future enhancements.

    On the back-end, we implemented Sanity.io, a headless CMS that decouples content from presentation. This enables AREF's team to efficiently manage and update their site's content without impacting the design or functionality. Sanity.io's flexible content models and real-time API empowered us to create a site structure tailored to AREF's unique needs.

    Their strategic insight, creative vision, and technical expertise resulted in a cohesive brand experience and a platform that is both visually compelling and highly functional.     To ensure a smooth transition, we developed custom scripts to migrate thousands of documents, pages, and resources from AREF's previous site. This meticulous data transfer process preserved the organization's valuable content while optimizing it for the new site architecture.
